India’s formal business ecosystem remained on a strong growth path in January 2026, with the total number of active registered companies and LLPs rising to 25.24 lakh.
During the month, 33,350 new companies were incorporated across 6,444 pincodes. While this was slightly lower than December’s 34,567 incorporations across 6,508 pincodes, the broader trend continues to reflect solid entrepreneurial momentum.
Over the past 12 months, a total of 330,400 entities were incorporated, compared to 241,900 in the previous corresponding period — a notable 36.6% increase. On a monthly year-on-year basis, January 2026 incorporations were 44.5% higher than January 2025, highlighting continued strength in new business formation.
India’s corporate leadership base also remained extensive. As of January 2026, the country had 33.11 lakh active Indian directors and 62,400 foreign directors, underlining both domestic participation and international interest in India’s corporate sector.
The latest numbers reinforce the depth of India’s formal economy and the continued spread of business activity across a wide geographic footprint.
India currently has 25.53 lakh active registered companies and LLPs, reflecting the country’s steadily growing formal business ecosystem.
In February 2026, a total of 33,916 new companies were incorporated across 6,486 pincodes, slightly higher than 33,350 incorporations across 6,444 pincodes recorded in January 2026.
Looking at the broader trend, the pace of new entity formation has accelerated sharply. During the 12-month period from March 2025 to February 2026, 341,300 entities were incorporated with the MCA, compared to 241,900 entities during March 2024 to February 2025 — marking a strong 41.1% year-on-year increase.
On a monthly comparison basis, February 2026 incorporations were 47.0% higher than February 2025, underlining the momentum in India’s entrepreneurial and corporate activity.
This growth highlights increasing business confidence, wider geographic participation, and a deepening formalisation of enterprise activity across the country.
